A Sermon on Matthew 11:28-30

A Sermon on Matthew 11:28-30 “Blessed Are the Meek”

Gentleness gets a bad rap in our culture. Men are told to be strong and successful and to boast about all their achievements. Gentleness is seen as passive weakness, and nobody wants to be weak.

Biblical gentleness is based on strength. Yes, there is humility and kindness and mildness, but these all rest on the foundation of strength. Biblical gentleness can never be separated from an underlying strength.

And Jesus lived a life of strong gentleness. The Servant Song of Isaiah 42:1-4 and Matthew 11:28-38 highlight the gentleness of Jesus, which brings restoration and rest.
