The Parable of the Talents is one that we think is focused on the money given to the servants. However, the focus of the parable is on the faithfulness of the servants and the reward for their faithfulness.
In this sermon, we learn that God is a faithful God. In the Old Testament, God shows His faithfulness to Israel in the Exodus story. God’s faithfulness is also seen in the redemption story told throughout the whole Bible. We show our faithfulness through a “Long Obedience in the Same Direction,” as Eugene Peterson titled his book.
God calls us to live lives of holiness. We are to work out the holiness he has given to us in Jesus. We must beware of being faithful to our wants and desires, putting them to death in the power of the Holy Spirit.
